Nancy Pelosi passes through Singapore on her trip to Asia
The President of the Chamber of United States, Nancy Pelosi, spoke with authorities in Singapore this Monday (01), at the beginning of his Asian tour. Pelosi met with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Halimah Yacob and other cabinet members, the Foreign Ministry said.
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework was one of the main topics addressed by the leaders. Lee and Pelosi also discussed the war in Ukraine, tensions around Taiwan and mainland China and climate change, according to an official statement. Lee “highlighted the importance of stable US-China relations for regional peace and security,” he added, in a possible allusion to reports that Pelosi may visit Taiwan.
In a statement over the weekend, Pelosi said she would visit Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan to discuss trade, the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, security and “democratic governance”.
