A petition shared on the internet asks the minister to Paulo Guedes be nominated for the Nobel Prize in Economics this year. In the claim, which has already been signed by 17,736 people, the author of the request argues that the last three years have been tragic for the world economy, that the strong stagnation in production has caused an imbalance in government accounts, affecting all countries, without exception, and that Given this scenario, first the pandemic and then a war, it has been possible to evaluate and compare the results of the actions of public managers in the area of economics and finance.

The post was shared by names within the government. “It already had a consolidated name and financial stability, but it joined Bolsonaro and caught Brazil in its worst political, ethical and economic crisis in its history. Add to that 1 pandemic and 1 war. Even so, the economy only improves”, wrote the federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) on his Twitter profile on Sunday (7). The message was also shared by his brother, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).

“There is no longer any doubt as to the manager who has been most successful in managing a stressed economy,” says the petition, referring to Guedes. “Their quick and technical actions, and in the face of external and internal adversities, managed to save companies and the population with well-targeted emergency aid and with severe measures aimed at reducing the cost of living of the population and facilitating the companies’ business”, says the application.

“Coordinated actions on raising interest rates are now being followed by other nations. And, while most countries suffer from high inflation, low gross domestic product and collapsing public accounts, Brazil shows the opposite, growing more than expected, generating new jobs, controlling inflation and demonstrating strength as an energy power. and capable of supplying a large part of the world demand for food. With all this, the nomination of the Minister of Economy of Brazil, Paulo Roberto Nunes Guedes, for the Nobel Prize in Economics 2022 is fair”, argues the author of the request.
